this winter I had to take the main roads because the back roads were plowed so narrow i was pretty sure a soccer mom in a Yukon XL or Range Rover was going to come around a corner take me out when without even looking up from her text.

In Boston, I-93 is somewhat like the surface of the moon. Unfortunately, both my girlfriend and I live closer to 93 than any other highway. So I only wish I could choose my route based on road quality...I'd choose a different one if there were any viable alternatives.

While DDing an 850 has made me consider going that route, I still mainly choose by combination twistiness, scenicness (which is a word I just made up), and lack of traffic lights.

Me, after the road I drove yesterday.

For work, I was leaving one of our locations with a couple of servers in the bed of my truck (had no room for them anywhere else). I was directed by awesome Apple maps down what must have been one of the 3 worst roads I've ever driven. The potholes and craters in the road were bad enough that I pointed my truck off the side of the road in order to minimize damage to the servers I was carrying (had no packaging for them at all).

Pretty much all my routes from the end of February until ~mid-April are selected based on where I'm least likely to run into pot holes. I even drive all the way around to the back of my neighborhood every time I come and go since the main entrance is pockmarked. Costs me ~10 minutes per day.

Not so much the route as the parking lots I need to enter determine which car I'll take.

ME!!!! Back when my car literally had no suspension and was on it's bump stops this made a huge difference!!!

DDing a cavalier with no suspension for 4 years made me go that route. Now I have a suspension so I am not as particular.

I stopped using one road due to the severity of the speed bumps they put on it, but currently there's nothing elsewhere that I can't just drive around. When they come to fix the roads I will still be making the same avoiding measures purely down to habit.

All the damn time. Northern VA is a minefield right now of potholes and ripped up roads. I've already lost too many tires and have a leaky strut because of it, so yeah, I'm on the lookout.

Yes! That is a major factor in the roads I choose to use.

The majority of Hong Kong's roads are awful and there usually aren't many alternate routes that have any better road surfaces.
